Boat hire in the Überseestadt

They are moored in the Europahafen marina: boats and ships that allow adventure-seekers to experience the Überseestadt quarter and the city of Bremen from an unusual perspective. You don't even need a boating licence for most of the rental options.

The marina Europahafen

Opened in summer 2011, Marina Europahafen has quickly developed into a hotspot for water sports enthusiasts. "The infrastructure is exceptionally good for a marina," reports operator Jens Wirdemann. "We also hear a lot of positive feedback from walkers who are happy to see the boats."

Around 100 berths are currently available to amateur and professional skippers. According to Wirdemann, there is still room for expansion. In 2024, he would like to expand the marina by an additional 40 to 50 berths. The boats and ships are protected from waves and currents in the Europahafen; some can even be hired and the maritime flair of the Hanseatic city can be enjoyed from the water.

Sail away! Whether a trip on the Weser or a longer cruise to Bremerhaven, the crew of Bremensailing makes it possible. As passionate sailors from an early age, they want to make their passion tangible for everyone. On the sporty twelve-metre sailing yacht Bavaria Match 38, participants can actively help out or simply enjoy themselves.

The basic package is available for groups of four or more and lasts around three to four hours including basic catering on board. After a short briefing, the distribution of life jackets and the obligatory rollers, it's time to get going: "We set sail, cross, jibe and sometimes do a man-overboard manoeuvre," say the crew. The proud 11-metre-long ship is named Jeanne D'Arc, has taken part in the Fastnet Race twice and sailed from Holland to England for a Dutch sailing school for many years.

2. Hansa-Charter motorboat hire

Until a few years ago, you were only allowed to chug around on a motorboat with 5 hp. Now it's 15 hp, which is much more fun, as Michael Wittkuhn from Hansa-Charter Motorboat Hire assures us. Depending on availability, four to five motorboats can be hired from the end of March to the end of October (in dry weather), three without a licence and two with a licence.

Guests should allow at least two hours for a tour including instruction. "With the licence-free boats, you can head towards the city centre, along the Schlachte, past the Weser stadium to the lock or towards Bremen-Nord to Vegesack. With a licence, a long tour to Bremerhaven is possible." In addition to festive occasions such as birthdays or wedding proposals, the boats can also be booked for commercial purposes, for example for inspections.

3. River Rocker

The River Rockers bring that Florida feeling to Überseestadt. The "Black Betty" can be chartered for up to twelve people without a sports boat licence. "Our Starcraft 236 Party Lounger Luxury Pontoon is around 7.5 metres long, 2.6 metres wide and 9.9 hp. We sail with a powerful pusher engine that manoeuvres the boat safely," says the provider, describing the experience. Among other things, the boat has a bar, a barbecue, spacious lounge sofas and a swimming platform.

Then there is the "Chasey Lain", which requires a licence: the Okiboats 585 DC Cabin is around six metres long, 2.5 metres wide and 115 hp. It offers space for up to seven people and is equipped for luxurious excursions.
