The restructuring process will do nothing to detract from the traditional character of the wood and factory port quarter as a location for port terminal operators, mills and manufacturing plants. On the contrary, these functions will be expanded. New potentials will emerge from the dynamic presence of firms from the wind energy sector, which have come together here to put their 'Energy Mile' concept into practice.
The symbol of the restructuring and new permeability of this former 'special port zone# is the official historical landmark Speicher XI, an old warehouse soon to serve as the new home of the Bremen university of arts on the one hand, a modern service centre on the other.
From the interplay between historical architecture, modern construction and attractive public space, a new quarter emerges whose heterogeneous utilization and maritime flair will trigger great potentials for development.
